Thank you’s were read from Kim Bellio and the Family of Donna Tangney
To date, we do not have a copier at the office. Katie is looking into buying a laser printer that will be less expensive and meet our needs. Presently the copier costs approx. $2,300.00 annually. Adam researched laser printers and found they run approx. $400.00 for small business use.
The budget still needs to be voted on.
Donna reported that 33 out of 37 new member forms have returned their paperwork
Please continue to inform your building reps of new hires or leaves
A condition of employment is that union dues must be paid. Letters were sent to last year members that did not pay union dues or the agency fee. Please contact Donna Malouin with any questions
If you pay the agency fee, it is important to understand that there is no legal representation
P.R and R.
Seniority issues, job given to someone with less years
Duty issues for staff:
varies from school to school
definition of what is a duty and what are daily responsibilities needs to be clarified
A.P. classes are running, language is set, MOA still needs to be signed by Beth
Contract has not been printed. Beth explained that the hold up is because of the new Evaluation Tool. It was discussed that it will be put on the website (PDF format) without the evaluation piece. Cost of the shared printing was also mentioned. MTA prints the contract, but our union needs to reimburse them. This can be costly because the evaluation tool is over 36 pages and needs to be updated yearly. There is a tentative agreement on the evaluation tool. Deadlines are approaching, September 19th is one. It was voted the F.E.A. Exec. Board will vote on the evaluation language. The vote was 8 to 2. E Board members abstaining
This is a living document. Language is being decided, time lines are specific. At least two of our P.D. days will be spent on this.
Beth continued to stress how important charting each school building is to keep each member informed’
ESP Para Unit Report
The ESP’s have a tentative contract after meeting over a year of contract negotiations and a round of mediation. A ratification meeting will soon be posted in each building. All ESP’s should plan to attend and vote for the contract.
Patty and Kathy attended the Emerging Leaders Seminar at Williams College this summer. They shared that it was most valuable, especially the organizing of members and getting new members involved,
Pay issues for ESP’s is an issue. The payment for training and ELT should be in the next paycheck. Please continue to check your pay, make certain it is accurate and let Beth know if there are discrepancies.
Beth has received many concerns about the 21st Century program. Jennifer Jones retired and Maureen Caoute is the new director. Concerns that ESP’s may not be hired for different positions was voiced. What is the status of the funding and the effect on hiring/start up dates .Beth will be meeting with the director.
Prayers go out to the family of Crocker School Media Specialist, Keri Lyn Farley. Katie is looking into how MTA may be able to support the family through a benefit.
Beth recognized the need for ESP professional development. The concern was raised about the untimely way staff was notified. It is the intention that all ESP’s in the future to begin the school year the same time. This year, letters were received two days before start date, Next year it was promised a better system for notification.
Custodial Unit Report
Still waiting to hear from Tom Murray. Custodians ready. Looking for professional courtesy concerning phone calls and setting up meeting date.
Postings were a problem all summer. Beth worked throughout the summer on issues with transfers, job postings, Basically, not following the contract.
Payroll: continue to check your pay. It is your responsibility to contact payroll but please let the union know if you are having issues.
Concerns with first day procedure. Teachers were told that after the general meeting, the afternoon would be theirs for setting up classrooms. It was discussed that some schools held meetings. Without knowledge of the meetings, teachers were called. Teachers had little time in their rooms, some without getting a lunch break. Adam Cordio is looking into this.
Congratulations to FHS history teacher, Debra Sherblom for earning her doctorate degree.
